The Slamdance film festival was started by a few good filmmakers who had the guts, determination, and reckless stupidity to challenge Robert Redford, overlord of the Sundance empire, on his own turf in the treacherous mountains of Utah. Everyone said it was a suicide mission, that the odds were stacked against us and we would be forever blacklisted by the Hollywood elite. But we weren't afraid. We had big dreams and nothing to lose. Thus, in 1995, armed with a handful of films, some badly designed t-shirts, and enough contraband to get three consecutive life terms in a Utah penitentiary, we set off to Park City. The rest is history. And this diverse collection of no-budget short films, made with the same spirit of raw creativity and shoestring resourcefulness, are a little piece of that history.
